Tub to Walk-In Shower Conversions

Most tubs in Jacksonville homes get used as showers anyway. Konstantin takes the tub out, rebuilds the floor and walls, waterproofs everything and tiles a walk-in shower in the same footprint.

Walk-in marble-look shower with a linear drain and a hexagon floor

What’s included

  • Tub and old surround removal
  • Drain relocation with your plumber
  • New sloped shower floor
  • Full waterproofing membrane
  • Low curb or curbless entry
  • Niches and a bench where space allows
  • Wall tile to the ceiling
  • Glass-ready edges

How it’s done

  1. Demo down to the studs

The tub and surround come out so the walls and the slab can be checked for old water damage before anything new goes in.

  2. Rebuild and waterproof

New backer and a bonded membrane over the whole wet area, with the floor sloped to the new drain.

  3. Tile it

Walls, floor, niche and bench, laid out so the cuts land where they belong.

  4. Hand off for glass

The finished edges are straight and plumb so the glass installer gets a clean fit.

Can a bathtub be replaced with a walk-in shower?

Yes. A standard 60-inch tub space makes a comfortable walk-in shower, often with room for a niche and a small bench. The drain moves to suit the new floor, the walls and floor are waterproofed, and the shower can have a low curb or none at all. One reviewer had exactly this done after Konstantin repaired her cracked tile.

Does removing the only tub hurt resale value?

It can if it is the only tub in the house, since some buyers with young children want one. If there is another tub in a second bathroom, a walk-in shower in the primary bath is usually what buyers expect. Talk it over before demo; Konstantin can also tile a tub-and-shower combination instead.
