Often, yes. Many porcelain lines come in an indoor finish and a textured outdoor version of the same tile, so the floor looks continuous through the sliding doors while the lanai still has grip when wet. The lanai needs movement joints and has to keep its slope away from the house.
It depends on what is there. Tiling over existing tile can work on a floor if the old tile is flat and well bonded and the extra height is acceptable at doors and transitions.
