Bathroom Tile and Tub Surrounds

From one tired tub surround to the whole room: floors, walls, tub decks and wainscot, tiled level and lined up with the window, the vanity and the door.

What’s included

  • Tub surrounds and tub decks
  • Soaking tub platforms
  • Bathroom floors
  • Wainscot and full-height walls
  • Patterned and cement-look floors
  • Mosaic and hexagon floors
  • Heated floor mats under tile
  • Thresholds and transitions

How it’s done

  1. Start with the floor

The floor has to be flat before large tile goes down. High and low spots on the slab are ground or filled first.

  2. Center the room

Patterns are centered on the room, the tub or the window so nothing ends in a sliver at the door.

  3. Protect the wet walls

Tub surrounds get the same waterproofing as a shower.

  4. Finish the edges

Bullnose, trim profiles or mitered corners so no raw tile edge shows.

Should bathroom floor tile and wall tile match?

They do not have to match, but they should relate. A busy patterned floor usually wants a quiet wall tile, and a marble-look wall reads best over a simple floor or a small mosaic. Keeping one tile as the star and the other as the background is the safe rule. Konstantin can lay tiles out on the floor before you decide.

What tile is best for a bathroom floor?

Porcelain is the usual choice: it is dense, absorbs very little water and holds up to Florida humidity. Use a textured or matte finish for grip, or small mosaics in a shower where more grout lines add traction. Natural stone looks beautiful but needs sealing and more care with cleaners.
